Learning organization, an inevitable necessity in Iranian’s hotels: Case study in the hotels of Pars and Homa

Abstract

A learning organization is one that is able to change its behaviors and mind-sets as a result of experience. This may sound like an obvious statement, yet many organizations refuse to acknowledge certain truths or facts and repeat dysfunctional behaviors over and again. Examples include the number of times restructuring initiatives are repeated because the previous attempt did not achieve the desired outcomes or the failure of mergers and acquisitions to meet initial objectives. The event that has been of a specific importance concerning our countries' hotels has been their recent years' movement towards changing into 'learning organizations' in Iran. Hence, the goal underlying the present study was to specify how much the components of learning organization are applied by the two hotels of Pars and Homa and then to compare the two hotels with respect to how much they use these components. The methodology for the research was descriptive-gauging for which a sample of 60 people, including managers and the employees working in the two hotels, were selected through simple random sampling. Having analyzed the research data through One- sample-t- test, analysis of variance ,Scheffe-test and t-Hetling, the results indicated that the amount of using the component 'personal masters' in Homa hotel is more than average, while this amount is about average Shayan hotel. Moreover, the amount of using the component 'mental patterns' is estimated less than average in both hotels, and the amount to which the components 'shared vision', 'team learning' and 'system thinking' are used is estimated more than the criterion level in the Homa hotel while this amount is less than the average level in Pars hotel.
