Lebedino II Site in the Lower Kama Region (based on the materials of 1963 studies by A.Kh. Khalikov)

Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2019, Vol 3, Issue 29

Abstract

Lebedino II site excavated by A.Kh. Khalikov in 1963 is the only single-layer archaeological site of the Neolithic in the Lower Kama region studied by means of stationary excavations. The material culture of the site is characterized by ceramics and flint inventory of the Kama culture at its developed stage. Unfortunately, the researcher has not published the complete excavation materials, as they are of considerable interest for the understanding of the development of material culture in the Neolithic of the Lower Volga Region. The introduction into the scientific circulation of previously unpublished materials of the study of Lebedino II site has allowed to eliminate this unfortunate gap. Presently, only one radiocarbon date has been determined for the ceramics from Lebedino II site, which the researchers find more recent than the probable actual date. Considering the numerous counterparts in the Kama region and radiocarbon dates obtained for various organogenic materials, representatives of the Kama culture having populated Lebedinо II site lived in this territory for 400 years between 5000 and 4600 cal B.C.
