Legal aspects of cooperation between the state and religious organizations in the development of penitentiary chaplaincy

Abstract
The article provides an analysis of recent changes in the legislation of Ukraine in the field of penitentiary chaplaincy, the interaction of the state and religious organizations in ensuring religious needs and religious freedom of detained persons and prisoners, as well as prison personnel. The author substantiates that the current legislation of Ukraine does not fully reflect international standards in the field of ensuring the religious needs of persons holding or working in penitentiary institutions. Based on this it is actual and neces- sary to improve the legal framework for further development of penitentiary chaplaincy, the premise of which is the establishment of constant cooperation between the state authorities and religious organizations.
