Abstract
The article analyzes the peculiarities of leisure practices for adolescent youth in Kharkiv and Kharkiv region. Author outlines most significant similarities and differences in the leisure activities of rural and urban adolescents. It is noted that among rural adolescents the most popular activities are: watching television, visiting discos, clubs, visiting the church; urban adolescents visit cinemas more often than their peers living in rural areas. It is certified that such kinds of leisure activities as communication in social media, listening to music, resting, meeting with peers, welcoming and visiting guests are more widespread among adolescents of Kharkiv region cities and villages. Paper reveals that during adolescence passive leisure activities are more dominant. Through multidimensional scaling, author singles out the following types of leisure activities: entertainment, educational, festive and everyday ones. It is noted that for adolescents living in urban areas both technical and artistic creativity, together with participation in amateur art activities have an educational function; for rural adolescents only amateur art activities is an educational practice that aims at their development and gaining different shapes of authority in adolescents (according to N. Elias), where other types of creativity are entertaining, aimed at leisure. It is emphasized that traveling abroad is an educational leisure for urban adolescents, but it is entertainment for their peers in the rural area, however, this still needs further confirmation, interpretation and clarification, including through qualitative research methods. It has been discovered that visiting cinemas and walking around the city are entertaining leisure practices for urban adolescents, while for rural adolescents, they serve as educational practices.
