Abstract
Instituţionalizarea Agenţiei diplomatice a Principatelor Unite la Paris a fost posibilă după întâlnirea dintre Ed. Thouvenel şi agentul român, în după-amiaza zilei de 26 august/7 septembrie 1860. După ce a primit nota ministrului de Externe al Moldovei, Mihail Jora, şi scrisoarea din partea domnitorului Al. I. Cuza, ministrul de Externe francez a declarat că era foarte fericit să-l primească pe agentul prinţului Alexandru, dar nu putea să-l considere decât un agent oficios, căci altfel avea să încalce Convenţia de la Paris din 1858, la a cărei elaborare participase şi Franţa. În acest context, Agenţia Principatelor Unite era recunoscută oficios. Înfiinţarea Agenţiei diplomatice a Principatelor Unite la Paris a însemnat un moment important în ceea ce priveşte relaţiile româno-franceze. Mai târziu, Agenţia avea să se transforme în Legaţia României la Paris (1880).
