Lev Turkevych and Yevhen-Orest Sadovskyi: comparative studies of creative works of choir conductors

Abstract
The article deals with comparative study of two choir conductors – L. Turkevych (1901 – 1961) and Y.-O. Sadovskyi (1913 – 2014). They came from Halychyna, where were born to the families of priests and died on the North-American continent. Though their age difference was 12 years, their life roads crossed and for some period were parallel: at ¿ rst under national, political, social and cultural circumstances in Halychena until 1944 and then in emigration in America. The aim of the article is to make a comparative analysis of creative ¿ gures of L. Turkevych and Y.-O. Sadovskyi in such spheres as background and studying, conducting choral groups, conducting manner, choral works and publishing activities. The main stages of creative works, including studying, conducting choirs in Ukraine and in emigration in Western Europe and later in America are shown. Their role in organizing the choir «Vatra» and its successful concerts during 1946-1949 is stressed. The most important achievements in concerts, pedagogics and work with secular and church choirs in America and Canada are pointed out. Both conductors propagated Ukraine among foreigners. That is why their works were so multifaceted. Certain differences in conducting manner, choice of repertoire and publishing activities are marked.
