Local Sharing of Multiple Torrents in Peer to Peer System

Abstract

The rapid growth traffic of Peer-toPeer applications, especially BitTorrent, is putting a lot of pressure to Internet Service Providers. In this paper, we examine the existence of the locality through a large-scale hybrid PlanetLab-Internet measurement. We find that even in the Autonomous Systems locality mechanisms for individual torrents is not much inefficient. When we come to multiple torrent behavior, it effectively amplifies the possibilities of local sharing. We develop a detection which achieves a significance success rate without any communication overhead. Due to the implementation of certain pattern of correlation we observe that detection rate is gradually increasing. By the simulation we have shown that our framework can successfully reduce the cross-ISP traffic and minimize the possible degradation of peers’ download speed.
