LONG-SPAN GLUED WOODEN STRUCTURES AND THEIR USE
Journal Title: International Journal of Civil Engineering and Technology - Year 2019, Vol 10, Issue 3
Abstract
To date, glued wooden structures are used in almost all the elements of buildings and structures. Such structures can be found in ceilings, in coatings, beams, trusses, partitions, walls and even in enclosing structures. Wood is of particular interest in modern construction as a renewable material especially at the time of focusing on energy efficiency. Many European countries are perplexed by the widespread introduction of renewable materials into the construction process; the Russian Federation also strives for improving the energy efficiency of structures and materials, while not neglecting the bearing capacity and durability of structures. In this article special attention is paid to glued wooden structures, which gain momentum in the construction of many structures, including the long-span sports and entertainment facilities, such as indoor stadiums, sports complexes, swimming pools, indoor concert halls and playgrounds, as well as in retail and entertainment complexes. The advantages and disadvantages of using such material in the construction of buildings with large spans instead of metal structures are considered. Particular cases of the use of laminated wood in large-span structures, such as sports complexes for various purposes, facilities for mass attendance of people, concert halls, storage facilities and others are considered. The comparative characteristics of glued laminated timber and typical timber, as well as a comparative table of the properties of LVL timber and metal structures are given. In these comparative tables the basic properties of these materials are structured, which allows to consider their properties, advantages and disadvantages relative to each other
