Low Protein Brown Rice for Preventing Progression of CKD and DKD to End Stage Renal Failure
Journal Title: Diabetes Research – Open Journal - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is pervasive into aging society, affecting permanent implications on patients’ life. Approximately 10% of the global population has CKD, and millions die each year. The prevalence of CKD was high in Latin America, Europe, East Asia and the Middle East, where approximately 12% of the population has CKD.1 Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) or diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a part of CKD when the patients have diabetes.2 Both CKD and DKD may progressively fall from a normal estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR >90 ml/min/1.73 m2 ) to less than 15, at which point the patient becomes end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The status of DKD could be estimated by measuring the amount of urinary protein and the serum creatinine, which can be used to calculate the eGFR.

Clinical and Experimental Evidence of Hypoglycemic Neuropathy
When compared with the extensive research on hypoglycemic impacts on Central Nervous System (CNS) and cardiovascular system, the effects of hypoglycemia on the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) have not been investigated a...
Population-Based Strategy for Preventing Diabetes and its Complications
A recent report from the American College of Physicians (ACP) should cause a paradigm change for the treatment of diabetic patients.1 The main purpose of diabetes therapy is the prevention of complications.2 The endpoi...
Do we Need New Therapies for Diabetes?
Diabetes research and practice cluster (drug developers, payers, regulators and physicians) often (and especially in recent times) question the need of new therapies. Why would we need new therapies nowadays, when we hav...
Effect of Low Carbohydrate Diet on Type 2 Diabetic Patients and Usefulness of M-Value
Background: Debate between the Calorie Restriction (CR) and Low-Carbohydrate Diet (LCD) has been continued for several years. We have started LCD therapy for diabetic patients since 1999, and experienced good response to...
