Low Temperature Impact Toughness of Self-shielded Flux Cored Wire for Pipeline Steel

Abstract

Taking BaF_2-Fe_2O_3-Al-Mg slag system self-shielded flux cored wire as research object,the effects of residual Al,N and O mass fraction on low temperature impact toughness of the deposited metal in welding wire was analyzed by low temperature impact toughness test. The microscopic structure of deposited metal and slag inclusion was observed via metallurgical microscopy and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the low temperature impact toughness of deposited metal in welding wire is decreased with the increase residual Al mass fraction. When residual Al mass fraction is low,the deposited metal slag inclusion is mainly circular Al_2O_3,and the weld center is fine granular bainite microstructure with higher low temperature impact toughness. When residual Al mass fraction is high,the irregular shape deposited metal slag inclusion is mainly aluminum nitride,and the weld center is granular bainite microstructure and small ferrite with lower low temperature impact toughness. The reasonably control of trace element mass fraction in welding wire is good for higher low temperature impact toughness.
