Lyrics of the Execution (Invitation to a beheading in the context of Nabokov’s lyric poetry of 1920s)

Abstract

Author is concerned with the motive of execution and death and its representation given in Nabokov’s lyric poetry as well as in his master novel “Invitation to a beheading”. Special attention is drawn to Nabokov’s gnostic receptions of this motive dominating the aforementioned novel. The motive of execution and death in Nabokov’s works has its origins in his early poetry, thus the latter can be viewed as a prologue to his masterful prose.
