Magnesium sulfate in the prevention of postoperative pain in abdomino-pelvic surgery at the Dr. José Rangel Villa de Cura Aragua hospital Venezuela 2021

Abstract

The objective was to determine the effectiveness of Magnesium Sulfate in the prevention of postoperative pain in abdomino-pelvic surgery. A clinical investigation was carried out, of an experimental, transversal and prospective analytical type. The sample was made up of 10 patients undergoing surgical intervention at the Dr Jose Rangel Hospital in Villa de Cura, period 2021,which was divided into two groups of 5 patients, Group A received 30 mg/kg of magnesium sulfate intravenously. Plus, NSAIDs and Group B only received NSAIDs. Analgesic efficacy was evaluated using the VAS visual analog scale, demonstrating a lower score in those who received magnesium sulfate, which corresponds to mild pain. On the contrary, patients in Group B had a higher range, which corresponds to severe pain. hemodynamic changes, heart rate and non-invasive blood pressure, there was no elevation of any parameter. Of the patients in Group A, only 12% presented psychological phenomena as opposed to 88% who did not present alterations. In conclusion, the use of magnesium sulfate can be highly useful and an effective alternative to achieve good postoperative analgesia, and its adverse effects are infrequent when an adequate dose is used
