MAIN TRENDS OF STUDYIN G MEDIEVAL EASTERN CHRISTIAN HYMNOGRAPHY: RECEPTION OF LITERARY CRITIC

Abstract
The theoretical paper examines the main trends in the study of the hymnographic work as a phenomenon of medieval literature. Among such trends are identified: the identification of ethical principles for organizing a hymnographic work; establishment of compositional patterns of a hymnographic work and modeling of the figurative system of a hymnographic work. The beginning of the discovery of the poetic principles of the organization of the hymnographic work was laid by the prominent French source scholar, paleographer and theologian cardinal J.-B.-Zh. Pitra. Subsequently, K. Krumbaher publishes a huge work, which describes three systems of versification in the Byzantine literature. In the multi-volume work «The History of Byzantine Literature,» O. Kazhdan carries out a detailed review of the thematic, compositional and rhythmic features of hymnographic poetry created by Andriy Kritsky, Kozma Mayumsky, John Damaskin, Theophanes the Confessor and others. G. Prokhorov considers the peculiarities of the formation of the Eastern Christian hymnographic poetry and. Detailed elaboration of the Slavic poetic system in the hymnographic texts indicate that both Prokhorov and M. Meshchersky, although they do not speak about it anywhere, but are part of the concept of the Italian Slavist R. Pickchio, who believes that the in the medieval Slavic texts the isocratic principle of rhythmic presentation is used. The second trend of literary studies begins in the monograph by V. Rybakov «Joseph Songwriter and his cartoon activity». The thematic sequence in the hymnographic canon is also considered by N. Seryogina in the monograph «The Word about the Igor’s Regiment» and the Russian singing anthem of the 12th century». Third trend of literary studies the least investigated problem. N. Smelova sets himself the goal to construct a typology of the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the «Theotokos» of the Syrian hymnography of the IX-XI centuries. Similar discovery of the Virgin Mary’s images is carried out by O. Kozhushny.
