Journal Title: Perspectives In Medical Research - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Type 2 diabetes is the predominant form of diabetes constituting more than 90 % of all the diabetic 1 population. Studies have shown a rising trend in the prevalence of diabetes across different parts of India. Recent estimates by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) showed that number of people with diabetes in India is 65.1 million and is projected to increase to 109 million by 2035. The high burden of diabetes is been reflected in increased morbidity by virtue of its specific complications, high cost of treatment and reduced life expectancy.
