মানিক বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের ছোটগল্পে আখ্যানের বিনির্মাণ (Reconstruction of Narrative in Manik Bandopadhyay's Short Stories)
Journal Title: Atmadeep - Year 2024, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Manik Bandopadhyay’s approach to narrative construction and deconstruction in his short stories represents a pivotal shift in Bengali literature. Through his unique technique of reconstructing the narrative, he embeds a deeper message aimed at challenging contemporary societal norms and addressing the complexities of human existence. Drawing from Jacques Derrida’s post-structuralist theories, Bandopadhyay's work explores how power structures manifest within texts and society. His stories often break away from traditional storytelling by focusing on the psychological depth of characters, examining their internal conflicts in response to external societal pressures. Incorporating Freudian psychoanalytic theories, Bandopadhyay explores themes of human desire, particularly sexuality, and its potential to instigate social change. In contrast to many of his contemporaries, Bandopadhyay boldly addresses topics of sexual revolution and societal transformation, demonstrating how personal desires can challenge conventional social norms. His works serve as both a reflection and critique of the period’s social fabric, offering new ways to interpret human experiences and the possibility for societal change. Through innovative narrative techniques, Manik Bandopadhyay not only created compelling stories but also provided a platform for rethinking traditional values, marking a significant contribution to the evolution of Bengali literature.
