Maple syrup urine disease: Role of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Case Reports - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 6
Abstract
Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD)/leucine encephalopathy is an inborn error of amino acid metabolism resulting in neurotransmitter depletion, disrupted brain growth and development. Magnetic resonance (MR) with diffusion-weighted imaging is the best imaging tool during hyperacute and acute phases. We report a case of a child who was presented with global developmental delay and foul smelling of urine and diagnosed as MSUD with typical MR imaging findings and laboratory findings.

Management of isolated lateral orbital wall blow-in fracture with optic nerve compression - Time is vision
Blow-in fracture of orbit usually involves floor and medial wall. The lateral wall of an orbit is the strongest wall to prevent blow in. Blow-in fracture of an orbit with severe proptosis and fracture segment pressing on...
Acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma of oral cavity, mimicker of angiosarcoma: A rare case report
Acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) is an uncommon variant of SCC. It was first described by Lever in 1947. It usually develops on sun-exposed areas of older-aged individuals. Histologically, the tumor consists o...
Laparoscopic management of gastric outlet obstruction due to gastric lipoma: A case report.
A gastric lipoma is a rare entity and accounts for 2–3% of all benign gastric lesions. It is a diagnostic challenge. We present a case of a 35-year-old male who presented with intermittent attacks of pain in abdomen, vom...
A rare case of presence of unusual foreign body in rectum in homosexual male
Foreign body in the rectum is rare yet potentially life-threatening condition; fear of social embarrassment causes the patient to delay to seek treatment and even hide the actual history and replace imaging reports, whic...
A rare case of traumatic penetrating chest injury with hemopneumothorax
Thoracic trauma contributes to one-quarter of trauma deaths. Traumatic hemothorax is commonly associated with organ damage, such as rib fracture, lung injury, and diaphragm rupture and usually occurs immediately after tr...
