The Marine Scientific Research (MSR) is a concept within the law of the sea, which is related to the topics ranging from the natural sources of the sea to active and economic protection of the marine environment. Despite the studies about MSR are carried out at the international level, it is observed that these studies are few in general and non existent in the Turkish literature. Therefore, in this study, concept of the MSR is studied and especially legal statute of the MSR is determined in exclusive economic zones and on the continental shelves within the framework of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
