MASS WEAR OF ELEMENTS OF FRICTIONAL PAIR WITH ANISOTROPIC SURFACES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 229, Issue 1

Abstract

The article deals with the influence of texture direction, as one of the structure geometric features, on the intensity of wear process of elements of frictional pairs with conformal contact. Properties of the surface layer of machine elements have been described focusing on SGS direction significance in terms of the surface layer transformation. Experimental tests results have been presented, in which such factors as: the angle of machining trace intersections on samples and countersamples (0°; 30°; 45°; 60° and 90°) and the sample and countersample pressure (300, 450 and 600 N) were accepted as input factors. The mass of samples (its changes) controlled along different friction routes was the measurement of changes occurring in the tested frictional pair with conformal contact. On the basis of carried out experimental tests it was found that the angle of machining trace intersections on samples and countersamples has a significant influence on the intensity of the wear process. Wear is the biggest for angle 0 and the smallest for angle 90. It was also found that the change gradient is smaller for higher values of the sample load. Thus in this way significance of mutual location of the sample traces on cooperating surfaces has been proved and at the same time, though indirectly, the influence of SGS direction on the intensity of the frictional pair element wear process.
