Maximilian Hacman Archive Fund

Journal Title: Codrul Cosminului - Year 2014, Vol 20, Issue 2

Abstract

The past reconstruction needs a diversified documentation, from personal documents to memoirs, from private correspondence to the confessions of the people who experienced it, from the work of the ancestors to their critics, all of them meant to reproduce the picture as close as possible. Among the primary sources, the archive documents have gained their priority. The Romanian archives are the keepers of an impressive number of funds dispersed in the warehouses of those Services in all the counties. The present article proposes a short review of the Maximilian Hacman Personal Fund that was kept in the patrimony of the National Archives Department of Jassy. In order to highlight the documentary importance of the fund, the documents collection that belonged to the Chernivtsian professor Maximilian Hacman, offer information about the academic environment of the University of Chernivtsi, presented through his activity on the scientific land. The Fund contains a series of his studies, some of them published or that remained in the manuscript, totalizing 61 files and covering a period of 38 years, between 1903 and 1941. The Fund contains original documents and copies in Romanian and German. Signalizing this fund that was little studied by the researchers, represents an act of recovery of the biography of a great personality of the inter-war Bukovina and an impulse to study for the researchers’ of the past and for the law specialists that are interested in the work of the path breakers in the Romanian science.
