Media Convergence: Its Impact On Mass Communication

Abstract

The Gutenberg era is over. A new digital communications technology has emerged. They are changing the way we live-the way we work, relax, manage our money, trade and communicate with each other. The new technologies are changing the way we perceive people, cultures, countries and companies and our expectations of them and also our expectations of ourselves. From newsrooms to sales departments to Internet sites are converged “information platforms,” the business of information has changed and continues to change dramatically. The rise of digital communication in the late 20th century has made it possible for media organizations (or individuals) to deliver text, audio, and video material over the same wired, wireless, or fiber-optic connections. At the same time, it inspired some media organizations to explore multimedia delivery of information. This paper tells you that how Convergence is redefining the mass media and how people can successfully meet the challenges of the new media workplace. In this we will also explain about Convergence in various fields of mass media.
