Media USe By Preschool-Aged Children

Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study is to carry out a research into the use of such technological devices by pre-school children and advise parents on the negative effects on health and development of their children. Methods: A survey was carried out on parents who have 2-6 year-old children, which included a questionnaire on the use of such media by their children. Each parent was advised on negative effects of technological devices. Results: 102 parents took part in the survey. It was found that all of the children use one or more of one of those technological devices for an hour or more daily. We found that children use these usually during lunch or dinner time. Furthermore, parents had a very little knowledge about adverse effects on their children using such high-tech devices. Conclusion: This study is important and useful on a number of aspects. Firstly, it reiterated the fact that the use of such high-tech devices is very common among children under seven years old. Secondly, parents had virtually no knowledge of possible adverse health effects on their children using such devices. Finally, this small sample will form a basis of a larger and more detailed future study.
