MEDICAL STUDY OF REGION IN THE CONTEXT OF HISTORY AND PRESENT TIMES

Abstract
Definition of the modern concept of «Study of Region» was formed in 2000 by academician P. Tronko. In his opinion, the Study of Region does the research of a specific region in its various aspects. Unfortunately, the interpretation of the concept was too strict, and there was no place for medical aspects in the definition of the Study of Region. The researching of medical Study of Region started many years ago. Valentyn Otamanovsky became the first researcher in this area, he studied the history of medicine and pharmacy of Vinnytsia region. National Study of Region has high potential that is to be used for the development of the medical aspect. According to O. Reyent, the Study of Region is diverse and open for cooperation with related sciences, this definition points excellently to the interdisciplinary nature of the Study of Region. Until now researches on the medical Study of Region were rare – during the last 10 years only four articles were published in the leading journal «Kraieznavstvo». At the initiative of the historians of Kharkiv National Medical University in 2014, the medical Study of Region obtained a column in the abovementioned journal. The studies of A. Demochko, I. Robak, V. Alkov, L. Tovkun, V. Ilyin, A. Topchiy, A. Yakuba have already been published there. In addition, its main ideas have been introduced not only into the scientific use, but also into the work practice with medical students within the frames of «Study of Region» course. With the purpose to coordinate the scientific and methodical management of conducting of researches, an acting Center of medical Study of Region has been established in Kharkiv National Medical University. In addition, the Center is working in order to improve national patriotic education. «Study of Region» discipline has been included to the training program of the physicians for the students; it also studies medical component. Student conferences, academic seminars, round tables, presentations, discussions, contests are regularly held. As a result of the research conducted, the authors have concluded it is necessary to support and stimulate the researches to work in the field of medical Study of Region. It will not only show the potential of medical Study of Region, but also impulse the other sciences.
