Journal Title: Wiek XIX. Rocznik Towarzystwa Literackiego im. Adama Mickiewicza - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 0
Abstract
The article discusses issues related to the poetry of the Gimnastic Society “Falcon” (on the basis of a monthly periodical “Gimnastic Guide Falcon” published in Lviv in the years 1881–1894), and pertains to literary potential of this association disregarded by researchers. Te article refers to the names of prominent creators (poets, playwrights, critics) who were actively involved in the association and wrote under the dictates of ideology. Biographies of poets (the model of a rebel and a prisoner) appealed to the community closely connected generationally and mentally. Te article analyses the measures of this poetry, and especially its circumstantial dimension aiming at reinforcing the communitas. It points to a link between socio-political conditions and the entanglements of the epoch, references to Tadeusz Kościuszko mainstream, the code of the romantic martyrdom, the idea of positivism and the worldview declarations. Te underlying aim of the article is also to emphasize the need to work out the research methodology that would facilitate an analysis of this kind of poetry model.
