Metabolism of fatty acids in tissues and organs of the ruminants - a review
Journal Title: Animal Science Papers and Reports - Year 2016, Vol 34, Issue 3
Abstract
Fatty acid metabolism in the rumen is a meaningful, but not the only variation factor of fatty acid profile in milk and meat of the ruminants. Lipids absorbed in the small intestine are transported by lipoproteins to different tissues and organs of an animal, where they are subjected to metabolic modifications. Thus, despite the fact that ruminants absorb mainly long-chain saturated fatty acids, some specific isomers are present in milk and meat, whereas they are absent in the feeds. The impact of many of them on human health is not yet completely understood, but some have proven health-promoting effects in the prevention of lifestyle diseases, therefore are desirable in the food from the point of view of conscious consumer.

Associations between somatic cell score of milk and fertility traits in Polish Holstein-Friesian cows
The study aimed at estimating the association between somatic cell score (SCS) and two fertility traits: non-returns to oestrus by 56 days (NR56), and number of days from calving to first insemination (CFI). The data wer...
The oxidative status of milking goats after per os administration of N-acetylcysteine
Investigated were changes in selected redox parameters – vitamin C, malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) content of goat blood plasma – as markers of oxidative stress after per os administration the N-acetylcystei...
Lipid profile of intramuscular fat in lamb meat
Lipid profile of intramuscular fat (IMF) from semitendinosus muscle of lambs was examined in relation to the intensity of fattening system, animals’ final body weight and sex. Conducted were two repeations of fattening (...

The effect of elevated temperatures on the development of cattle embryos cocultured with bovine oviduct epithelial cells (BOECs) and a KSOMaa medium
The aim of this study was to compare the effect of elevated temperatures on the development of cattle embryos cocultured with bovine oviduct epithelial cells (BOECs) and cultured in a KSOMaa medium. Zygotes obtained in v...
