METAPHOR AS A FACTOR OF THE FORMATION OF THE GEOLOGICAL TERMINOLOGY SYSTEM

Abstract
The article outlines semantic processes that occur in the modern Ukrainian technical terminology. Metaphor`s constructive role in formation and development of geological terminology is highlighted. Lexicological units, serving as a source of new terms, are described. The actual material proves metaphor`s functional load as an important means of scientific knowledge and comprehension of the world and a key factor in the expansion of the science and technology. Different types of metaphor, which occur in the geological scientific discourse, are described.
