METHOD FOR CALCULATING TORSIONAL OSCILLATIONS IN EARTH’S ATMOSPHERE FROM NCEP/NCAR, MERRA-2, ECMWF ERA-40, AND ERA-INTERIM
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2019, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
In this paper, we describe a method for calculating low-frequency zonal-mean zonal wind variations, which we call torsional oscillations. We compare the torsional oscillations calculated from the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis I, MERRA-2, ECWMF ERA-40, and ERA-Interim projects, using different methods of processing the original data. We estimate the degree of consistency of torsional oscillations, obtained from different reanalysis projects, and discuss the use of torsional oscillations to study circulation processes in the atmosphere.

OBSERVING THE NEUTRON COMPONENT DURING THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY AT A MOUNTAIN CR STATION
During three summer months in 2015, the Cosmic Ray (CR) station Irkutsk-3000, located at 3000 m above sea level, measured the CR neutron component intensity with the 6NM64 neutron monitor, as well as the atmospheric elec...
ESTIMATED RELATIONS BETWEEN THE MAIN THERMOSPHERIC NEUTRAL COMPONENTS AT IONOSPHERIC F1-LAYER HEIGHTS ABOVE IRKUTSK IN 2014–2017
We have estimated seasonal variations in the main thermospheric gas components [O]/[N₂] and [O₂]/[O] for the period 2014–2017. We have used the well-known authoring technique and electron density measurements made with t...
GEOMAGNETIC VARIATIONS IN THE FREQUENCY RANGE 2.5–12 HZ IN THE IONOSPHERIC F LAYER AS MEASURED BY SWARM SATELLITES
We have analyzed geomagnetic variations in the 2.5–12 Hz frequency range in the ionospheric F layer above the electron density maximum, using data from two SWARM satellites. The analysis is based on the data obtained und...
COHERENT MICROWAVE EMISSION AS AN INDICATOR OF NON-THERMAL ENERGY RELEASE AT A CORONAL X-RAY POINT
A response has been found in a narrow band 5–7 GHz of microwave emission to the appearance of a coronal X-ray point. The emission source is a short X-ray loop located in the tail part of an active region and occurring wh...
STATISTICAL PROPERTIES OF AURORAL KILOMETER RADIATION: BASED ON ERG (ARASE) SATELLITE DATA
In this work, we have studied the signals of auroral kilometer radiation (AKR) from sources in the auroral regions of the Northern and Southern hemispheres simultaneously recorded by one satellite. We have carried out a...
