METHODOLOGY FOR IMPROVING STUDENT LITERACY BASED ON TEACHING CONCEPTS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS IN ENGLISH
Journal Title: International scientific journal Science and Innovation - Year 2024, Vol 3, Issue 12
Abstract
The role of effective teaching methodologies in mathematics education has garnered significant attention, particularly with respect to linguistic nuances that influence comprehension among elementary students. An emerging avenue in this discourse is the information-categorical approach, which emphasizes the integration of specific terminology as a foundational element in mathematical learning. By systematically introducing and contextualizing key terms, educators can scaffold understanding, thereby allowing students to navigate mathematical concepts with greater ease. This pedagogical framework champions the idea that language serves not merely as a vehicle for instruction, but as a critical lens through which students construct their mathematical knowledge. Furthermore, this method aligns with contemporary theories of cognitive development, which posit that language acquisition and conceptual understanding are inextricably linked. Consequently, a methodology that synergizes these dimensions offers promising implications for enhancing student engagement and achievement in mathematics education at the elementary level.
