Microbial Evaluation of Drinking Water in Khash City
Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 9
Abstract
Under groundwater and water dams are considered as some of the most important water sources for drinking water supplies in cities and villages. The water taken from such resources must be absolutely pure concerning hygiene and it needs to be low in amount of solutes and free from pathogenic microorganism. The objective of this paper is to study the microbial quality of drinking water sources in the city of Khash. This paper is a sectional-descriptive study. Drinking water samples were collected from different region of the Kash city for microbial tests from 2012 to 2013. Some sterilized 500ml jars were used for microbial sampling. Samples were transferred to the laboratory while they were kept at 40C temperature. Concerning microbial quality, MPN indicator (possible Coliforms in 100ml water) was determined and Coliform presence of forms was done through sample multi-tube test. The results showed that, out of 25 drinking water samples randomly collected, 13 samples of drinking water in various region of Khash city were polluted with Coliforms ( all 13 samples were polluted with Escherichia Coli, 4 were polluted with Shigella sonnei and Coliform, and one sample was polluted with Enterobacter aerogenes and Coliform). The presence probability of Shigella sonnei bacteria with Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenese was more in water at the same time.
