Abstract
Subcutaneous nature of tibia and its precarious blood supply make fractures of tibia more complicated. Minimally invasive percutaneous osteosynthesis[MIPPO] for proximal and distal metaphyseal fractures of tibiaā€¯appear to be next step in evolution of biological pla-tingThis was a retrospective and prospective study consisting of twenty cases of proximal and distal metaphyseal fractures of tibia with or with out intra articular extension treated by MIPPOMinimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis offers the orthopaedic surgeon a good method of fracture fixation in patients with complex periarticular fractures of tibia with severe soft tissue injury. MIPPO minimizes soft tissue stripping, preserves vascular pedicles and allows the osteogenic fracture haematoma [Bone morphogenic protein] to remain essentially undisturbed.This technique seems to cause no increase in risk of infection or soft tissue damage and allows for rapid mobilization of the limb and the patient.
