Modelling and Numerical Simulation of the Atmospheric Dispersion of Pollutants from an Integrated Iron and Steel Complex - Part I
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii "Dunarea de Jos" din Galati. Fascicula IX, Metalurgie si Stiinta Materialelor - Year 2010, Vol 33, Issue 1
Abstract
The Iron and Steel Complex processes handle, store and undertake important amounts of raw materials (iron ores, coals, etc.) energy, fuels, waste waters, slags and other different types of wastes. These activities have an important environmental impact; therefore significant amounts of pollutants (gases, waste waters and wastes) are resulted. In case of accidents involving emission of pollutants in the atmosphere, health authorities and local administrations often need to know what areas could be affected by dangerously high pollutant concentrations. The goal of the paper is to evaluate a ready-to-use and modelling system, including meteorological parameters and a dispersion model using FLUENT® 6.3, a flexible software and reliable to be used for such real-time evaluations, especially for trans-border regions.

Two-way Shape Memory Effect in a Cu-13wt. %Al-4 wt.%Ni Shape Memory Alloy by the Thermo - Mechanical Cycling Method
A Cu - 13 % wt Al 4% wt Ni polycrystalline shape memory alloy has studied with a thermo mechanical cycling method. The two – way shape memory effect (TWSME) was obtained bending the alloy around a cylinder mold and by us...
Monitoring Techniques for Inorganic and Organic Pollutants in Soils Around an Integrated Iron and Steel Plant
In this paper the analytical techniques of X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Gas Chromatography with Electron Capture Detection (GC-ECD) and coupled with Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) are used in order to assess the level of indu...
Determining the Reliability of Clincher Coolers
For any industrial entity that is put into operation, the problem of maintaining its functioning if possible, with corresponding technical and technological parameters without failure is an important issue. This is provi...
Surface Roughness and Topography of Ni / Micro-SiC Layers: Influence of Current Density on Electrodeposition Process
The surface properties are directly responsible for the performance of engineering materials because most of failures such as friction, wear, corrosion and fatigue often take place on the material surface. Electrodeposit...
Research on the Effect of Temperature and Duration of Immersion on the Layer Thickness of Zinc Coating Obtained in Microalloyed Zinc Melts
This paper aims to establish the influence of temperature and duration of immersion on the thickness of zinc layer deposited through a thermal process, in correlation with the chemical composition of melted zinc. Layers...
