MODOS DE VIDA EM MUDANÇA E TURISMO RURAL NOS CAMPOS DE CIMA DA SERRA

Abstract
This paper aims at a reflection on the effects of rural tourism on the way of life of the family that owns the inn called Fazenda do Amor. This view is based on the eating habits in the context of interaction in tourist encounters between visitors and the family from the perspective both of rural development and the one of locals. Ethnography was used as a research method, using the techniques of participant observation, field diary and semi-structured interviews. The data collected were listed in categories such as trajectory of the family members; trajectory of the production unit; food; interaction between families and tourists. The results show that the cultural interaction promoted by tourism along with cattle raising and social media are active agents in cultural change processes. In this sense, tourism is an important change agent that enables higher incomes and maintains the family’s property, which is demonstrated by the expansion and modernization of cattle raising, by university study opportunities for children, and especially by the prevention of rural exodus, since the land is valued as a family asset in the context of the life stories of those who dwell therein.
