Molecular Investigation of Equine Infectious Anemia Virus in Horses in Kars Province

Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2023, Vol 7, Issue 2

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Equine Infectious Anemia virus in horses in Kars by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Horses; they have always had an important place in human life since the first day they are domesticated. Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA), which causes heavy losses in the horse population, is listed as one of the equine diseases that must be reported by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Equine Infectious Anemia Virus (EIAV) is considered a barrier to the equine industry as it causes a persistent infection in horses. In this study, blood samples were taken from 120 horses in small family businesses in Kars region in accordance. Following RNA extraction from blood samples, nested RT-PCR analyzes were performed with specific primers in EIAV. All of the horses examined were negative for Equine Infectious Anemia Virus. Infectious Anemia of Horses, which is among the diseases that should be reported in our country, was observed to be absent in horses in Kars. It is recommended that the horse population should be regularly monitored throughout the country in order to ensure the country's permanent free status from Equine Infectious Anemia Virus.
