Molecular mechanisms associated with recognition of pathogens by receptors of innate immunity
Journal Title: Advances in Hygiene and Experimental Medicine - Year 2009, Vol 63, Issue
Abstract
Innate immunity is the first line of the defensive mechanisms protecting the host from invading pathogens. Structures of pathogens called PAMPs (pathogen-associated molecular patterns) are recognized by extra- and intracellular pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), which includes three families of sensors: TLRs, NLRs, and RLRs. Knowledge of the mechanisms involving PRRs makes it possible to understand innate immune activity and the development of precise methods of preventing and treating infection at the molecular level. This article presents the molecular pathways initiated in response to pathogens.

PARP1 inhibitors: contemporary attempts at their use in anticancer therapy and future perspective
Current cancer therapies are based mainly on the use of compounds that cause DNA damage. Unfortunately, even the combination therapies do not give rewarding effects, due to the high efficiency of DNA damage repair mechan...
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR). Antiproliferative properties
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) are transcription factors that belong to the hormone nuclear receptor superfamily. Their main role is control of fatty acid metabolism and to maintain glucose homeosta...

Rola sierocych receptorów jądrowych w rozwoju limfocytów T w grasicy
Proces dojrzewania prekursorów limfocytów T w grasicy (tymocytów) składa się z kolejnych etapów różnicowania, selekcji i ekspansji tymocytów. W procesie dojrzewania tymocytów można wyróżnić dwa punkty kontrolne, w któryc...
Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, osteoprotegerin and its soluble ligand sRANKL and bone metabolism in girls with anorexia nervosa
Background: Only scarce data exist concerning the relationship between dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and/or its sulfate form DHEAS and bone status in adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN). Aim: We investigated whether...
