Monitoring Household Filarial Infection Status under the Environment of Annual Mass Drug Administration (MDA) in a Village of Ghatampur, Kanpur, Uttarpradesh, India

Journal Title: Journal of Communicable Diseases - Year 2017, Vol 49, Issue 2

Abstract

The households infected with filariasis were given MDA in a village and monitored annually for change of mf infection. At end of 6 years 53% decline was observed in mf rate and 74% in mf mean counts. New infection was seen in 2% to 7% persons in household without infection at baseline. It is concluded that MDA failed to achieve desired results in 6 years. It is also highlighted if MDA coverage reaches 100%, infection can be eliminated. Therefore, MDA coverage is a major concern for program managers for the success of the lymphatic filariasiselimination program in Indian communities.
