Journal Title: Dicle Tıp Dergisi - Year 2012, Vol 39, Issue 2

Abstract

Objectives: The study was aimed to assess whether monitoring of pregnant women and infants were appropriate according to the protocols in the field. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in Konya city center. In 2006, sample size was calculated for pre-natal care in urban population (n=175). Same sample size was used as a base for infants. The neighborhoods from which the clusters were to be taken were selected randomly. Same sample size and progress were also used in 2011. Data were collected by face-toface interview with the pregnant and mothers. Results: The average week of pregnancy was 25±9. The percentage of unmonitored pregnant was 23% in 2006 and 7% in 2011 (P<0.001). The median of monitoring were 2 and 3 in 2006 and 2011 respectively (P<0.001). The percentage of pregnant monitoring in accordance with monitoring protocol of Ministry of Health in terms of correct timing and proper numbers was 51% in 2006 and 79% in 2011 (P<0.001). Total antenatal care increased from 91% to 99% in five years (P<0.01). The mean age of infants involved into the study was 6±3 months. The percentage of unmonitored infants was 6% in 2006 and 2% in 2011 (P<0.01). The median of monitoring was 3 in 2006 and 4 in 2011 (P<0.01). The percentage of monitoring proper to the time intervals stated in protocols decreased from 33% to 18% (P<0.01). Conclusion: While most parameters of pregnant and infant monitoring increased in urban population, the percentage of in-time monitoring decreased.
