Morphological and Biochemical Attributes of Mustard as Influenced by Different Concentrations of Gibberellic Acid (GA3)
Journal Title: American Journal of Agricultural Science, Engineering, and Technology - Year 2021, Vol 5, Issue 1
Abstract
A plot experiment was conducted at the Crop Botany Field Laboratory, Department of Crop Botany, Bangladesh Agricultural University during November 2007 to March 2008 to evaluate the effects of Gibberellic Acid (GA3) on morphological and biochemical features of mustard (var. BINAshorisha-6). Four concentrations viz. 0, 25, 50 and 75 ppm of GA3 were sprayed on canopy at 30 days after sowing. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The results showed that different levels of GA3 significantly influenced the plant height; number of primary and secondary branches/plant; root, shoot and shell dry weight/plant; total dry matter/plant; total chlorophyll content of leaves; and protein and oil content in seeds. There were statistically similar effects between the application rate of 50 ppm and 75 ppm in all studied parameters except total dry matter/plant, while an increased value was recorded under the former application of GA3. The research findings concluded that, plant growth, dry matter and biochemical attributes in mustard can be increased through a moderately high dose of GA3 application.
