MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY OF BRACHIAL ARTERY AND ITS VARIATIONS IN BRANCHING PATTERN
Journal Title: International Journal of Anatomy and Research - Year 2018, Vol 6, Issue 4
Abstract
Background: The brachial artery, a continuation of the axillary artery, begins at the distal (inferior) border of the tendon of teres major and ends distal to the elbow joint (at the level of the neck of the radius) by dividing into radial and ulnar arteries. The brachial artery is wholly superficial, covered anteriorly only by skin and superficial and deep fascia. In the present study we aimed to describe the high origin of brachial artery and its branching variations. Materials and methods: The present study was conducted in 40 formalin fixed upper limbs selected by convenient sampling irrespective of age and sex over a period of 6 months. The brachial artery was exposed and the length of the brachial artery and the distance of the profunda brachii artery from the lower border of teres major were measured using a thread and a measuring tape. Variations of brachial artery and its branches were noted. Results: In the present study, arterial variations can be classified as high division of brachial artery in five limbs, which is 12.5% of the 40 limbs dissected. Origin of profundabrachii artery is quite variable in 15% (6 limbs) of cases. Conclusion: Variations of Brachial artery and its branches are common both in respect of formation and termination.Knowledge of the vascular variations will increase the success of the surgical and radiological procedures.
MORPHOMETRIC AND MORPHOLOGICAL STUDY ON THE SEPTOMARGINAL TRABECULA
Background and objectives: Moderator band is a specialized bridge present between the base of the anterior papillary muscle and interventricular septum. It carries the right branch of the bundle of HIS with it. The band...
TRANSVERSE CEREBELLAR DIAMETER-AN ULTRASONOGRAPHIC PARAMETER FOR ESTIMATION OF GESTATIONAL AGE AND GRADING OF FETAL CEREBELLAR GROWTH
Introduction: Several parameters are used for the estimation of gestational age by ultrasonography. Measurement and demonstration of fetal cerebellum is a new and unique parameter of fetal brain growth and also useful fo...
ANATOMICAL VARIATIONS OF BRANCHING PATTERN OF MAIN RENAL ARTERY IN HILUM AND PREHILAR AREA
The hila and adjacent pre-hilar parts of 72 kidneys (35 right and 37 left) isolated from formalin fixed cadavers were examined. The hilum and prehilar area of each kidney was dissected to observe the total number of bran...
A STUDY ON VARIATIONS OF NUTRIENT FORAMEN OF ULNA IN SAURASHTRA REGION WITH ITS CLINICAL RELEVANCE
Background: Nutrient foramen is an opening into shaft of Ulna which gives passage to the blood vessels of medullary cavity. The knowledge of nutrient foramen is important in surgical procedures like bone grafting and mor...
STUDY OF BRACHIALIS MUSCLE: ADDITIONAL SLIP AND ITS CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Background: Brachialis is a muscle of anterior compartment of arm. It has two heads. Superficial head inserting into ulnar tuberosity innervated by musculocutaneous nerve, the deep head inserts into coronoid process of u...
