Journal Title: Dipteron-Wrocław - Year 2018, Vol 35, Issue
Abstract
Immature stages of Fanniidae are known from their association with decomposing organic matter of various origins. Some species have already been reported to occur in nests and burrows of various animals, both invertebrates and vertebrates. In this paper we report the occurrence of four Fannia ROBINEAU-DESVOIDY species in the nests of the great tit, Parus major LINNAEUS, from two localities, Owcze Głowy and Słomowo, in western Poland. We identified Fannia manicata (MEIGEN) and Fannia scalaris (FABRICIUS), common species known to develop in a variety of substrates, including birds’ nests. Two other fanniids, Fannia clara COLLIN and Fannia vesperilionis RINGDAHL, known to develop primarily in birds’ nests and mammals burrows, are newly reported from Poland
