Multi-scale characteristics of household poverty alleviation factors and rural revitalization path selection in Henan Province
Journal Title: Journal of Henan Agricultural University - Year 2024, Vol 58, Issue 5
Abstract
[Objective] This study aims to explore the differences in the poverty alleviation mechanisms of rural households in Henan Province under different topographical conditions, reveal the interactive effects among multi-layered poverty alleviation factors, and provide decision-making references for rural revitalization and its sustainable development. [Method] By employing a multi-layer linear model and integrating field survey data with panel statistical data, the study covers three scales: households, administrative villages, and counties. [Result] The results show that the scale of the elderly population in the family and the pathways of labor migration are factors that promote poverty alleviation among rural households. Rural households in hilly and mountainous counties, constrained by land and other production factors, are more inclined to work outside compared to those in plain areas. Combining agricultural planting with taking up employment, known as the “combined occupations” model, is an effective path for poverty alleviation among rural households in plain areas. [Conclusion] The study constructs a three-dimensional rural revitalization path system marked respectively by the upgrading of poverty alleviation industries to promote integrated urban and rural development at the county level, land consolidation to create a livable and viable countryside at the administrative village level, and continuous increase of farmers' cpabilities to promote prosperity and civilization at the household level. This system facilitates the consolidation of achievements in poverty alleviation and bridges the gap with rural revitalization.
