Multiple Correspondence Analysis in Health Sciences and Application
Journal Title: UNKNOWN - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
Objective: Categorical variables are frequently used in studies related to health sciences. Methods that used in the analysis of studies having such type of data, in some cases may be insufficient and it is also difficult to interpret the relationship between such variables. One of the methods used to eliminate this problem, is the multiple correspondence analysis. This analysis is a method which facilitates the interpretation of categorical variables, the similarities, the differences and the association between the row and column variables in contingency tables (cross-table) and it also graphically displays co-variations of variables on a less dimensional space. In this study, it was aimed to investigate the relationships between the factors affecting the students’ eating habits by examining the eating habits of the first and third year students at Kocaeli University School of Medicine. Methods: Data of survey was collected by conducting a questionnaire to the students and the results of multiple correspondence analyses were discussed. Results: When you look at the obtained factors of students' eating habits, in general, the level of nutrition knowledge and the place where students live were found to be significant factors. Conclusion: Also, it was concluded that the female students rather than male students, and the students who live with their parents rather than other students have more regular and healthy nutrition.
