3D-mixed-mode-loading: material characteristic values and criteria’s validity
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 37
Abstract
In many structures and components cracks, which are exposed to a 3D-mixed-mode-loading, occur due to multiaxial loading situation. A reliable evaluation of those components requires fracture mechanical criteria validated by experimental investigations. Within this article 3D-mixed-mode criteria for static as well as cyclic loadings will be presented. Experiments for pure mode I-loading, pure mode II-loading, pure mode IIIloading and 2D- as well as 3D-mixed-mode-loading combinations are performed using specially developed specimens and loading devices. By comparing the experimental results with criteria a widely validity of criteria and a generally conservative behaviour are revealed.

Crack formation of steel reinforced concrete structure under stress in construction period
To obtain deformation rules of steel reinforced concrete structure under stress, this study explored the crack formation in construction period. A novel structure system – steel reinforced concrete structure with&...
Numerical study of fracture arrest on snow cover
Under the hypothesis of a perfectly brittle phenomenon, avalanche triggering can be investigated numerically by means of Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM). Since, however, the real phenomenon is intrinsically dyna...
A dimensional analysis approach to fatigue in quasi-brittle materials
In this study, a generalized Barenblatt and Botvina dimensional analysis approach to fatigue crack growth is proposed in order to highlight and explain the deviations from the classical power-law equations used to charac...
In-service fatigue cracking of the propeller shafts joined by a spline-pinned construction to the engines of AN-24, AN-26, and IL-18 aircrafts
The paper delivers a critical review of the research data on the crack initiation and crack growth patterns characteristic of the components of the spline-bolted joints between the propeller shaft and reducer sha...
FEM simulation of a crack propagation in a round bar under combined tension and torsion fatigue loading
An edge crack propagation in a steel bar of circular cross-section undergoing multiaxial fatigue loads is simulated by Finite Element Method (FEM). The variation of crack growth behaviour is studied under axial a...
