A RARE CASE REPORT OF MULTIPLE EVANESCENT WHITE DOT SYNDROME PRESENTING AFTER PHYSICAL EXERTION

Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 21

Abstract

MEWDS is an inflammatory chorioretinopathy that affects mainly young, healthy women in the second to fourth decades of life. A flu-like illness is present in about one half of the patients. • OCULAR MANIFESTATIONS - acute, unilateral, painless visual loss. Bilateral cases have been reported, but they tend to be asymmetrical. • Visual acuity gradually returns to baseline levels. The temporal scotoma and photopsias may take considerably longer to resolve (several months).[13] Recurrences are uncommon but have been reported.[14] Visual prognosis is good even among patients who have recurrences. • An attempt is made in this article to determine the eitiology and visual outcome of MEWDS.
