ACUTE PERICORONITIS. CLINICAL-EPIDEMIOLOGICAL AND THERAPEUTICAL ASPECTS

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the frequency of inflammatory processes caused by wisdom teeth and to improve the effectiveness of healthcare to patients with acute pericoronitis by optimizing the treatment methods. To analyze the morbidity of the patients with complications caused by molar teeth, there were studied medical records of 1379 patients hospitalized in the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery during 2013. Also, the study included 18 patients with acute pericoronitis treated in 2 steps. In the acute phase of the inflammatory process the anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory treatment was administered, then the causative tooth was extracted on the 2nd and 3rd day of treatment. It was shown that the frequency of inflammatory processes caused by wisdom teeth constituted 16% of the total number of hospitalized patients (1379). Preoperative administration of the medicamentous treatment helps to ameliorate inflammatory phenomena. "Cold" extraction of the third molars involves a high degree of safety, determining the decrease of the risk of inflammatory complications.
