Biocontrol Potential of Entomopathogenic Fungi against Spodoptera Litura

Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2015, Vol 12, Issue 1

Abstract

Insect pest based economical loss and its associate chemical pesticide residue and resistance problems are inevitable in the agricultural sector. An alternative eco-friendly highly active insecticide is now target for the researchers in the field of agriculture. From the study, maximum of 14 isolates showed higher germination (more than 90%) on chitin and maltose followed by cellobiose and dextrin. Among the tested isolates, only Bb08, Bb10, BbF5, SSI and Ifr showed an average of 90% germination on all the tested carbon sources and were selected for the rest of the studies. The percent germination of selected isolates was 91.83±9.30, 95.58±6.10, 95.20±9.62, 95.95±8.04, 95.37± and 95.54±9.35 respectively. The present study revealed insecticidal efficiency of entomopathogenic fungus against Spodoptera litura. The isolates collected for southern India was subjected for its insecticidal activity and found LC50 value of 1.3x103 against S. litura. The search of dynamic, versatile insect pathogenic fungus has been identified in the present investigation and would be evaluated in the field.
