Design and characterization of a fractal-inspired multi-frequency piezoelectric energy converter
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 23
Abstract
A promising harvesting technique, in terms of simplicity and efficiency, is the conversion of ambient kinetic energy through piezoelectric materials. This work aims to design and investigate a piezoelectric converter conform to a fractal-inspired, multi-frequency structure previously presented by the author. A physical prototype of the converter is built and experimentally examined, up to 120 Hz, in terms of modal response and power output. Three eigenfrequencies are registered and the power output is particularly good at the fundamental eigenfrequency. Also the effect of the resistive load applied to the converter is investigated.

Crack path simulation for cylindrical contact under fretting conditions
In this work different strategies to estimate crack path for cylindrical contacts under fretting conditions are carried out. The main goal is to propose and to evaluate methodologies not only to estimate the ...
Field Load Acquisition and variable amplitude fatigue testing on maxi-scooter motorcycles
Aim of the present work was the instrumentation of a maxi scooter for the field collection of service loads acting on the scooter main components such as frame, fork, handlebar, rear frame and suspension. Service...
A numerical study of squeeze-film damping in MEMS-based structures including rarefaction effects
In a variety of MEMS applications, the thin film of fluid responsible of squeeze-film damping results to be rarefied and, thus, not suitable to be modeled though the classical Navier-Stokes equation. The simplest w...
On numerical integration for effective stress assessment at notches
This paper presents a numerical method for non-local stress assessment by means of a general FE tool and the local stress field. Unlike usual calculations by means of a numerical PDE solver, a more general numerica...
A plastic stress intensity factor approach to turbine disk structural integrity assessment
This study based on a new fracture mechanics parameter is concerned with assessing the integrity of cracked steam turbine disk which operate under startup-shutdown cyclic loading conditions. Damage accumulati...
