Efficient Biometric Iris Recognition Using Hough Transform

Abstract

The demand for an accurate biometric system that provides reliable identification and verification of an individual has increased over the years. A biometric system that provides reliable and accurate identification of an individual is an iris recognition system. Iris recognition systems capture an image of an individual's eye; the iris in the image is then segmented and normalized for feature extraction process. The performance of iris recognition systems highly depends on segmentation and normalization. This paper presents an efficient algorithm for iris recognition using Hough Transform. In our paper we are using Hough Transform segmentation method for Iris Recognition. Iris images are selected from the Database, then the iris and pupil boundary are detected from rest of the eye image, removing the noises. The segmented iris region was normalized to minimize the dimensional inconsistencies between iris regions. Most of biometric recognition algorithms employ computer vision, pattern recognition and image processing techniques or their combination. On the other hand, our approach using image matching is based on gamma correction with histogram thresholding technique. For the implementation of this proposed work we use the Image Processing Toolbox under Matlab software.
