ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS OF COUNCILORS IN AREAS OF NATURAL VALUE IN THE LUBELSKIE VOIVODESHIP

Abstract
The aim of the study was to analyse selected aspects of environmental awareness of councilors in areas of natural value in the Lubelskie voivodeship. The study used data of the author’s studies implemented in 2013 under the project “Environmental conditions and factors of economic functions’ development in the areas of natural value of the Lubelskie voivodeship” funded by the National Science Centre. The study covered an area of 30 communes of the greatest natural value in the Lubelskie voivodeship according to the indicator developed by D. Guzal-Dec as a part of her study on natural value in rural and urban- -rural communes in the Lubelskie voivodship. Using a questionnaire survey, 383 councilors – 86% of the total – were subject to the research. Councillors from environmentally valuable communes showed their positive attitude towards the surrounding, especially valuable elements of nature, they, however, often had too low level of knowledge about protecting it.
