Identification of dysfunctional areas in business interruption policies

Abstract

 The article identifies dysfunction occurring in business interruption insurance. The first part of the paper focuses on general characteristics of business interruption policy, and presents its own definition of the term. Then, using data from the Central Statistical Office and secondary studies, determined the estimated size of the BI market in Poland. The last part of the article shows the external and internal barriers to the use of business interruption insurance for Polish companies. In conclusion identifies some activities on the part of insurance companies, which could take to contribute to the further development of this type of insurance on the Polish market in the next few years.
