Integrity and life estimation of turbine runner cover in a hydro power plant
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2016, Vol 10, Issue 36
Abstract
This paper presents integrity and life estimation of turbine runner cover in a vertical pipe turbines, Kaplan 200 MW nominal output power, produced in Russia, and built in six hydro-generation units of hydroelectric power plant „Đerdap 1” in Serbia. Fatigue and corrosion-fatigue interaction have been taken into account using experimentally obtained material properties, as well as analytical and numerical calculations of stress state, to estimate appropriate safety factors. Fatigue crack growth rate, da/dN, was also calculated, indicated that internal defects of circular or elliptical shape, found out by ultrasonic testing, do not affect reliable operation of runner cover.

Integrated assessment procedure for determining the fracture strength of glass components in CSP systems
The structural integrity and reliability of glass components are key issues for concentrated solar power (CSP) systems. For example, the glass windows in a solar furnace may suffer catastrophic fracture due to th...
EBSD-assisted fractographic analysis of crack paths in magnesium alloy
Magnesium (Mg) alloys are attractive as structural materials due to their light weight and high specific strength. It is well known that Mg alloy has hexagonal close-packed (HCP) structure and only basal slip ...
Damaging micromechanisms characterization in a ferritic-pearlitic ductile cast iron
The analysis of the damaging micromechanisms in Ductile Cast Irons is often focused on ferritic matrix. Up to ten years ago, for this grades of DCIs, the main damaging micromechanism was identified with the graph...
Multiaxial fatigue assessment of crankshafts by local stress and critical plane approach
For multiaxially-loaded parts several stress-based fatigue assessment concepts are applicable mostly taking uniaxial test results as basis. These approaches work well in case of proportional loading states, but on...
Experimental investigation of effect of specimen thickness on fracture toughness of Al-TiC composites
In this paper, the macro and micro-mechanical fracture behavior was studied for aluminum (Al6061) alloy matrix, reinforced with various proportions of TiC particles such as 3wt%, 5wt% and 7wt%. The Al6061-TiC...
