MORPHOLOGICAL VARIATION OF SHEMAYA CHALCALBURNUS CHALCOIDES CHALCOIDES (GULDENSTADT, 1772) IN THE CASPIAN SEA

Abstract
For the first time traditional morphological characteristics of the river and marine shemaya populations in the Caspian Sea were studied in details. The differences in the color of different parts of fish body from different populations were revealed. It is shown that shemay species had with II unbranched rays in a dorsal fin and their number were more than 50 %. The analysis showed that each population of shemaya has peculiar characteristics of meristic and plastic parame-ters. The 7 studied shemaya populations were grouped differently, demonstrating different degree of phenetic similarity by different parameters. Geographical distribution of local populations mainly conformed by cluster analysis of 24 traditional external plastic parameters.
